Overview

Tenglong Chinese Restaurant, nestled at 208 Clement Street in San Francisco, is a vibrant spot where traditional Chinese flavors meet a warm, welcoming atmosphere. This family-run eatery brings an authentic experience that feels both comforting and genuine, making it a cherished neighborhood gem.

The menu shines most brightly with standout dishes like the Shrimp Chow Mein, which boasts perfectly cooked noodles tossed with tender shrimp and crisp vegetables. Equally impressive is the Basil Spicy Eggplant Chicken, delivering a harmonious blend of heat and herbal notes, and the Crispy Veggie Spring Rolls that offer a satisfying crunch without heaviness. The combination of pork and vegetables in their Chow Mein strikes a balance, reflecting the kitchen's careful attention to texture and flavor.

Seafood lovers will appreciate options like the Salt & Pepper Prawns and Hot Braised Flounder Fillet, each prepared with meticulous care that shows in both presentation and taste. The care extends to the details—shrimp tails are peeled by hand, underscoring the kitchen’s commitment to craftsmanship. Complementing the dishes is the wonton soup, a soothing broth filled with succulent pork wontons, bright vegetables, and fresh shrimp, providing a soul-warming touch especially on chillier days.

The dining environment enhances the overall experience. It’s more than a place to eat; it’s a communal space where hospitality is palpable. Customers often note the friendly presence of Christina and her husband, who create a personal, inviting vibe. The modest, cozy setting encourages guests to stay, savor their meals, and feel at home. This ambiance makes Tenglong a perfect choice for family gatherings or casual meals with friends looking for genuine, hearty Chinese cuisine.

Tenglong’s appeal goes beyond food. It’s about authenticity, community roots, and small-scale passion that translates into every dish served. The restaurant caters to diners seeking authentic Chinese flavors without pretense—whether you’re craving the savory richness of Chow Mein or the delicate crispness of fried wontons, you’ll find a dish that speaks to tradition and thoughtful preparation.

In sum, Tenglong Chinese Restaurant is not just a meal stop but a place to discover culinary care and neighborhood warmth. Its consistent quality and sincere hospitality make it a standout for those wanting to enjoy satisfying, well-crafted Chinese food in San Francisco’s Richmond District.

Tenglong’s wings are my absolute favorite in the city and is a must try. I’ve had a lot of Chinese style fried chicken wings but these are by far the best! The rest of the menus is also extremely good.

Great food + atmosphere. This husband and wife duo are a great addition to the neighborhood. We should support and continue to support small businesses like theirs. Food is great and satisfying!

I came here a few days ago for lunch. The atmosphere was welcoming as Christina was a lovely host. I came alone and ordered the chicken chow mein and the original dry fried diced chicken. The food was amazing and the portions were generous. Next time I come, and I will definitely be coming back, I hope to bring my friends so we can eat family style.

Excellent food prepared with great care (for example the outer skins of the tails of the shrimp were removed by hand and not just cut off). Christina was very friendly!

We love this place. If you want to feel at home, seen and well-fed, this is your eatery. I am a creature of habit so not overly versed in the full menu here and I recommend everything I've ever ordered: the lunch specials, the broccoli beef, the chicken chow mein and the won ton soup. Even the rice and Sprite have a special vibe. One can hear Christine (our usual waitress)'s husband working in the kitchen to make our wonderful food. Today my won ton soup had crisp zucchini, firm shrimp, green green spinach, water chestnuts, bamboo, golden broth and pillows of pork won tons that got me back on my feet on a chilly day. This place has great food, reasonable prices and that je ne sais quoi that makes one feel truly nourished.

10/31/2025 9pm . This place is great. Went in and ordered because they were the first restaurant that actually noticed me. Ordered to go and was worth the wait. Quality food and would return in the future. Taste great also. Incredible service, thank you.
